Features

The First Stage of The New Generation of Technics’ Direct Drive Turntables
We're relentless in our pursuit of superior sound quality, and our latest innovation, the ΔΣ-Drive, is a game-changer. The innovative technology not only eliminates minute motor vibrations but also elevates the electromagnetic conversion precision of your cartridge. Introducing the SL-1200GR2, the first stage of our revolutionary direct drive turntable systems. Immerse yourself in unparalleled audio excellence – because you deserve the best in every beat!

Coreless Direct Drive Motor Achieving Stable Rotation
In 1970, Technics revolutionised the turntable industry with the world's first direct drive system. Unlike traditional belt drive setups, our direct drive system minimises motor-induced vibrations, ensuring an exceptional signal-to-noise ratio and long-term reliability without the need for frequent part replacements. However, earlier models faced "cogging" issues due to iron cores, affecting rotation regularity. The SL-1200GR2 features an iron coreless single-rotor/single-stator motor, eliminating cogging and maximising rotational smoothness. Experience superior performance and extended durability with Technics' cutting-edge technology.

New Motor-Drive System, ΔΣ-Drive (Delta Sigma Drive)
Unlock a new realm of audio precision with the ΔΣ-Drive – a state-of-the-art system harnessing Technics’ expertise in PWM signal processing. In addition to reducing harmonics, the new drive suppresses vibrations from the motor for smoother, more accurate rotation, ensuring a rich reproduction of the music.

Low-Noise Switching Circuit
By incorporating a high-speed switching power supply, we guarantee a consistently stable power capacity with minimal ripple and humming. This smart utilisation of a switching power supply in our turntable design not only eradicates the necessity for a large transformer but also eliminates the need for additional measures to counteract mechanical vibrations. Moreover, operating at a switching frequency exceeding 100 kHz ensures that any potential noise is confined, preserving the full bandwidth of the music playback for an uninterrupted and superior listening experience.

Current Injection Active Noise Cancelling
Our innovative system teams up a powerful noise detection device with a precision error amplifier. It doesn't just detect any lingering noise in the power supply – it goes a step further by applying an inverse phase current to kick out those disruptive noise components. The result? A power supply that surpasses the effectiveness of traditional regulators, ensuring an ideal and pristine environment for your audio, free from low-frequency noise.

Tonearm Achieving High Initial-Motion Sensitivity
The tonearm, a crucial component for precise reading, tracks the record's rotation. Inherited from Technics, it employs a lightweight, rigid aluminium pipe in the traditional static-balance universal S-shape. Featuring a gimbal suspension and high-precision bearing, it achieves initial-motion sensitivity of 5 mg or less through manual assembly by skilled artisans. This meticulous construction ensures accurate tracing of record grooves. Plus, it includes an auxiliary weight, providing flexibility for a variety of pickup cartridges.

Two-layer Rigid Platter with Vibration Damping Characteristics
Our platter's advanced design ensures superior sound quality by combining a two-layer construction with strategic deadening rubber. This effectively eliminates unwanted resonance, providing a clear and immersive audio experience. Through simulation optimisation, we've enhanced the aluminium die-cast portion to increase inertial mass and minimise vibration, resulting in improved overall performance. The addition of strengthening ribs at the back further enhances rigidity. Compared to the SL-1200MK5, our platter boasts damping characteristics that are more than twice as effective, ensuring an unparalleled listening experience.

Two-layered Cabinet Construction
The SL-1200GR2 ensures high rigidity by using a body with a two-layered construction that solidly unifies the BMC and the aluminium die-cast chassis.

High-Quality Terminals
The turntable uses gold-plated phono terminals for detachable cables, while metal shielding construction inside the case reduces the effects of external noise.

High-Damping Silicon Insulators
For the insulators supporting the body, the SL-1200GR2 uses special silicon rubber that ensures high vibration damping characteristics and long-term reliability.

Cardboard Cushioning and Packaging Materials
The SL-1200GR2 adopts cardboard cushioning and packaging materials. The cushioning has been changed from styrene foam to corrugated cardboard, reducing the weight of plastic used by more than 70% compared to SL-1200 (ref.model).
